Tic/Obsessive Compulsive Disorder/Trichotillomania Services

At Yale Child Study Center (YCSC), we provide comprehensive assessment and treatment for children, teens, and young adults experiencing tic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), trichotillomania, excoriation disorder, stereotypic movement disorders, and misophonia. Those who have received a Tourette syndrome/OCD assessment through our Outpatient Therapy Services for Youth are eligible for treatment services. While families do not need to live in Connecticut, all appointments must take place at YCSC. We also provide services for other referrals, but we conduct comprehensive evaluations first to ensure we provide the most appropriate care.

Services

We provide evidence-based treatments, including:

  • Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT): A specialized 12-week behavioral intervention program designed to help individuals manage tics through awareness training, competing response training, and functional intervention procedures.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): Trearment for OCD that helps patients gradually face their fears and resist compulsive behaviors in a supportive, structured environment.
  • Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment (ComB): Evidence-based intervention for body-focused repetitive behaviors including trichotillomania (hair pulling) and excoriation disorder (skin-picking), combining awareness training, stimulus control, and competing response strategies.
  • Psychopharmacological Assessment and Medication Management: Comprehensive evaluations and ongoing medication monitoring, integrated with behavioral therapy services.
