Outpatient Therapy Services for Youth

Families from all over the world reach out to Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) for assessment and adult and youth therapy services. We provide assessment services for families no matter where they live, though families need to be able to travel to New Haven. However, many of our therapy services are only available to families in the New Haven area. Sometimes, exceptions can be made for specialized treatments that are not widely available elsewhere such as Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) and Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI). Families seeking treatment from outside the New Haven area, from both Connecticut and New York, may be interested in learning more about the therapy and psychiatry services available at our Westport location.

Services

Our programs and services are child and family centered. We help with a variety of behavioral health concerns including anxiety, depression, and challenging behaviors. We also work with children and families who have experienced trauma in different ways.

Several of the interventions that we offer are designed to provide parents with skills to support a child or teen with anxiety or another challenging behavior. For example, the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) intervention teaches parents strategies to help their children overcome anxiety while Parent Management Training (PMT) can help parents develop skills to manage a variety of childhood behaviors.

Our team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and licensed professional counselors. We work within a teaching hospital, so some of our providers are trainees working under the supervision of a mental health expert.

Psychiatric evaluations and medication support are available for clients actively involved in our therapy services. Some patients may participate in long-term medication management after they complete therapy in a YCSC program.
