Sara L Richer, MD, FACS

Sara L. Richer, MD, is an otolaryngologist, or ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgeon, who focuses on thyroid and parathyroid surgery. She cares for adults with conditions that affect the thyroid and parathyroid glands, as well as other masses and growths in the head and neck.

Dr. Richer treats thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, overactive parathyroid glands that can cause high calcium levels, and a range of salivary gland problems. She also evaluates and manages head and neck lumps to determine whether they are benign or cancerous and what treatment is needed. She has a particular interest in making surgery and recovery as smooth as possible, and she pays attention to each step of the process so patients feel informed and supported.

As an associate professor of surgery at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Richer is involved in teaching and mentoring future surgeons. She has written extensively about thyroid and parathyroid surgery, helping to share knowledge about how to care for patients with these conditions.

Dr. Richer earned her medical degree from Rush Medical College. She completed her internship and residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, followed by a fellowship in thyroid and parathyroid surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Massachusetts General Hospital.
