Hydrogen Breath Tests

Definition

A hydrogen breath test is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure used to detect the presence of certain gastrointestinal disorders, such as lactose intolerance, fructose malabsorption, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). The test measures the amount of hydrogen gas in the breath after consuming a specific sugar solution, which can indicate abnormal digestion or bacterial overgrowth.
