Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD)

Definition

Aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), also known as Samter's triad, is a chronic medical condition that affects the respiratory system and is characterized by asthma, nasal polyps, and a sensitivity to aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). People with AERD may experience a range of symptoms, including nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing, and asthma flare-up. The exact cause of AERD is unknown.
