Biography

Ranjit Deshpande, MD, MBA is a transplant anesthesiologist and critical care physician specializing in the care of patients undergoing complex abdominal organ transplants, including liver and kidney transplants. He also treats critically ill patients in the intensive care unit, working closely with surgical and medical teams to coordinate safe, effective care.

Dr. Deshpande has helped develop a comprehensive, team-based approach that supports transplant patients throughout their surgical journey. This includes a dedicated preoperative consult clinic for risk assessment and optimization, intraoperative care tailored to high-risk physiology, and standardized postoperative critical care protocols that ensure continuity, safety, and improved outcomes.

He also led the creation of Yale’s perioperative Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Program, enabling anesthesiologists to make real-time, bedside decisions that improve patient care. His clinical philosophy emphasizes technology-enabled care, collaboration, and clear communication with patients and their families.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Deshpande serves as vice chair for finance and strategy for Yale’s Department of Anesthesiology. He earned his MBA from Yale School of Management and is actively involved in improving how care teams function and how health systems can better serve patients, with the patient always at the center of these efforts.

“I believe in building a seamless experience for patients from their first visit to the operating room and through recovery,” he says. “Our goal is to anticipate challenges and support patients every step of the way.”
