Asmaa Ferdjallah, MD, MPH, FAAP
Biography
Asmaa Ferdjallah, MD, is a pediatrician who provides care for children of all ages, including those with complex blood disorders. She has specialized training in pediatric hematology-oncology—the study and treatment of blood diseases and certain cancers in children—and in bone marrow transplantation, a procedure in which unhealthy bone marrow is replaced with healthy cells.
She views her role as a community pediatrician who brings specialty care directly to families in a comfortable setting. “My favorite part of my job is sharing humor to connect with families and kids,” she says. “I am passionate about helping kids and their families in any way I possibly can.” Dr. Ferdjallah was inspired early on by her experiences interpreting for her mother, an Algerian immigrant, and strives to be an advocate for every parent facing language barriers. “I want to be an advocate and protector for every mom who is here with her kids and doesn’t speak English proficiently, and I will be her ally,” she explains.
As an assistant professor of pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Ferdjallah integrates her experience in pediatric hematology with community-based care. She often reassures her patients by saying, “It’s going to be okay, and I am always here for you.”
She received her medical training at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed her pediatric residency at Emory University. Dr. Ferdjallah then pursued pediatric hematology-oncology and pediatric bone marrow transplant fellowships at the University of Minnesota.
