Transurethral Needle Ablation (TUNA) of the Prostate

Definition

Transurethral needle ablation (TUNA) of the prostate is a minimally invasive medical treatment that uses low-level radiofrequency energy to heat and ablate prostate tissue, thereby relieving symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The procedure involves inserting a cystoscope through the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) to reach the prostate, and then using thin needles to deliver targeted radiofrequency energy.
