A nevus, commonly known as a mole, is a benign growth on the skin that results from the clustering of melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells. Moles can vary in size, shape, and color and are usually harmless. However, some moles may undergo changes or develop into melanoma, a type of skin cancer.
