Myelodysplastic Syndrome with Excess Blasts

Definition

Myelodysplastic syndrome with excess blasts (MDS-EB) is a subtype of myelodysplastic syndrome characterized by the presence of a higher number of immature blood cells, or blasts, in the bone marrow and peripheral blood. This condition can lead to a decrease in healthy blood cells, causing anemia, increased risk of infections, and bleeding complications. MDS-EB is considered a high-risk form of MDS and has an increased likelihood of progressing to acute myeloid leukemia.
