Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS)

Definition

Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, life-threatening condition characterized by the formation of blood clots in small blood vessels, hemolytic anemia (destruction of red blood cells), and kidney failure. It is caused by uncontrolled activation of the complement system, which is part of the body's immune response, and can lead to damage in various organs.
