Biography

Dr. Parkash is a pathologist with expertise in Gynecological Pathology and Quality and Safety. In gynecological pathology, she has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, co-authored a textbook, contributed to both the 4th and 5th editions of the WHO classification of Female Genital Tumors, and been part of the expert panel that developed recommendations for the diagnostic standardization of the pathologic evaluation of uterine cancers. She was the founding co-chair of the educational committee for the International Society of Gynecological Pathology and has held leadership roles in various other pathology societies. She moderates the Gynecological Pathology list-serve, a forum of 225 gynecological experts from around the world. She has won awards from the American Society of Cytopathology to promote cervical cancer screening in India. She is the former director for Quality and Safety for the Yale Pathology Department. She has led several quality improvement initiatives in the health system, including starting the direct-to-patient disclosure program from Pathologists, perhaps the only one of its kind in the country. She has participated in the ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) Project from the division of laboratory systems at the CDC and the Primary Care Research in Diagnostic Errors project, an initiative of the Betsy Lehman Center for patient safety. Her research interests include diagnostic error reduction, improved communication of test results for patients, and improving laboratory workforce engagement. Her current research is focused on understanding how patients engage with healthcare after experiencing a medical error, a project with investigators at the Yale School of Public Health and the Betsy Lehman Center for patient safety.
