Nikhil Victor Sikand, MD, FACC
Biography
Nikhil Victor Sikand, MD, is a cardiovascular medicine specialist with subspecialty training in advanced heart failure, including congestive heart failure (CHF), heart transplantation, cardiomyopathies, and mechanical circulatory support.
He manages patients needing heart transplantation, left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and temporary mechanical circulatory support devices as well as patients with heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction and cardiomyopathies. He is also a specialist in the Yale Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center of Excellence and acts as the medical director the Heart Transplant and Durable Mechanical Circulatory Support programs.
Dr. Sikand is an assistant professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine and a clinician-educator. He is associate program director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship program. He has received awards for his teaching and commitment to medical education.
His research interests include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, quality improvement in medical education and systems-based approaches to improving heart failure outcomes. He is the principal investigator or subinvestigator on several ongoing clinical trials at Yale.
Dr. Sikand completed medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine followed by residency training at Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital, and fellowship training at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, and comprehensive echocardiography.
