Maisie Orsillo, DO

Internal Medicine

Biography

Maisie Orsillo, DO (doctor of osteopathic medicine), is a primary care physician who is passionate about community and preventative health, patient advocacy, diabetes care, and nutrition.

Dr. Orsillo pursued a career in medicine because of her previous advocacy work through AmeriCorps and desire to improve our healthcare system, her interest in science, nutrition, and preventative care, and most importantly, her lived experience as a patient.

“I love being able to personally connect with my patients who have diabetes, express understanding of the daily struggles that come with the condition and empower people to feel like they can tackle their diabetes,” she says.

Dr. Orsillo believes in empowering patients through focused health education and therapeutic listening. “Having multiple medical conditions can be overwhelming and navigating our complex health care system on top of that can really discourage patients,” she says. “I break things down for my patients, explaining the background of their disease, the role that specific medications are playing in preserving their health, and how patients can optimize their health.”

Additionally, Dr. Orsillo says listening to her patients is key. “I want to give my patients the space to express any challenges they have. It can be hard to address everything in a 20-minute visit, but I want them to know they are valued, that I hear their concerns, and that we can keep working on things when they come back in a month or two,” she says.

Dr. Orsillo strongly believes in the power of longitudinal relationships with her patients. “Nothing is more rewarding than building a trusting relationship with patients that spans years, one where you can celebrate the successful moments and provide comfort in the difficult times,” she says.

Dr. Orsillo’s additional areas of interest include women’s health, rural healthcare, disability healthcare, and medical education.
