Understanding Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), often called bypass surgery, is used to treat blocked or narrowed coronary arteries and improve blood flow to the heart. During the procedure, surgeons use a healthy blood vessel from another part of the body to create a new route around the blockage. Kelsey Gray, MD, director of cardiothoracic transplant at Yale New Haven Hospital Heart and Vascular Center, explains how CABG works, who may be a candidate, and what patients can expect before and after surgery. Learn more about it in the video above.
