Biography

Ilir Maraj, MD, is a cardiologist who specializes in clinical cardiac electrophysiology (EP), a technology used to manage complex electrical issues of the heart and heart rhythm disturbances.

He performs complex specialized procedures including ablation (a procedure that scars tissue to block abnormal electrical signals) for patients with such conditions as supraventricular tachycardias, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia. “My main focus is low to no fluoroscopy [radiation] for ablation procedures,” Dr. Maraj says. “This minimizes radiation exposure for the patient and EP lab staff.”

In addition, he performs implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, as well as cardiac resynchronization therapy—a treatment that helps restore normal heart rhythm—for patients with advanced heart failure.

“Becoming a cardiac electrophysiologist was an opportunity and a privilege to help people,” Dr. Maraj says. “This is an important and interesting field that helps make a difference in people’s lives using cutting-edge technology, and this is extremely rewarding.”
