Biography

Carolyn Rochester, MD, is a pulmonary disease specialist who treats patients with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and pneumonia, among other conditions. She is the medical director of the Yale COPD Program and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program for the VA Connecticut Healthcare System.

In addition to her wide-reaching clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Rochester researches pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) and COPD. She’s interested in the role of muscle training techniques in PR for patients with COPD, the impact of medical comorbidities on PR, the benefits of PR for patients with disorders other than COPD, the effect of PR on home-based patient activity, and the varying clinical types of COPD.

Dr. Rochester serves as the chair of the Yale New Haven Health System COPD Consensus Group, which works to improve care for patients with COPD and champion efforts to reduce hospital readmissions due to COPD.

Dr. Rochester is a professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine.
