Living Donor transplants are complex procedures, and patients often have other medical problems to consider. So, in addition to the surgeons and other caregivers, there are always two anesthesiologists involved in the operation, one for the donor and another for the recipient. Anesthesia is a key element of any operation, and patients who have any concerns or questions at all should always feel free to talk to their anesthesiologist, says Ranjit Deshpande, MD, director of transplant anesthesiology for Yale Medicine.
