Zika Virus

Definition

Zika virus is a mosquito-borne viral infection primarily transmitted by the Aedes species of mosquitoes. It can also be transmitted through sexual contact, blood transfusion, and from a pregnant woman to her fetus. Most people infected with Zika virus experience mild or no symptoms, but the infection can cause severe birth defects in unborn children and has been linked to neurological disorders in adults.
