Definition

Vascular access refers to the process of gaining entry into the bloodstream, typically through a vein, for the purpose of administering fluids, medications, blood products, or for hemodialysis. It can be achieved through various methods, including peripheral intravenous (IV) catheters, central venous catheters, and arteriovenous (AV) fistulas or grafts.
