Therapy/Counseling: Bulimia

Definition

Bulimia, also known as bulimia nervosa, is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors, such as self-induced vomiting, excessive exercise, or misuse of laxatives, to prevent weight gain. Therapy or counseling for bulimia aims to identify and address the underlying emotional and psychological factors contributing to the behavior and to develop healthier coping strategies and eating habits.
