Scleroderma-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease (SSc-ILD)

Definition

Scleroderma-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) is a progressive lung condition that occurs as a complication of systemic sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder characterized by the thickening and hardening of the skin and connective tissues. In SSc-ILD, inflammation and scarring of the lung tissue lead to reduced lung function, impaired gas exchange, and respiratory symptoms.
