Scabies is a highly contagious skin condition caused by the infestation of the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The mites burrow into the skin, causing intense itching and a pimple-like rash. Scabies is transmitted through close personal contact or sharing of clothing, bedding, or towels with an infected person.
