Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disease
Definition
Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication that can occur after solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It is characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of lymphocytes, leading to the formation of lymphoid tumors or lesions. PTLD is often associated with immunosuppressive therapy used to prevent transplant rejection and can be caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection.
