Paraneoplastic Neurologic Syndromes

Definition

Paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes are a group of rare disorders that occur as a result of an immune response to a cancerous tumor, affecting the nervous system. These syndromes can manifest in various ways, including dysfunction of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, or muscles. The immune system mistakenly targets healthy nervous system cells, leading to neurological symptoms that may appear before the cancer is diagnosed.
