Definition

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver cells, unrelated to alcohol consumption. It can range from simple fatty liver to more severe forms like nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which may progress to cirrhosis and liver failure.
