Maternal Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Definition

Maternal systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune condition that affects women during pregnancy. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues and organs, leading to inflammation and damage. Pregnant women with SLE may experience complications such as preterm birth, preeclampsia, and neonatal lupus.
