Definition

Fibrous dysplasia is a rare bone disorder characterized by the replacement of normal bone with fibrous tissue, leading to weakened and deformed bones. It can affect one or multiple bones and may cause pain, fractures, or deformities. Fibrous dysplasia is usually diagnosed in childhood or early adulthood and is caused by a genetic mutation that occurs during fetal development.
