Cystinosis

Definition

Cystinosis is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the accumulation of the amino acid cystine within cells, leading to the formation of crystals in various organs and tissues. This can result in kidney dysfunction, photophobia (sensitivity to light), and other complications. Cystinosis is caused by mutations in the CTNS gene and is typically diagnosed in infancy or early childhood.
