Cryptococcosis

Definition

Cryptococcosis is a potentially serious fungal infection caused by the Cryptococcus species, primarily Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii. The infection can affect various parts of the body, including the lungs and central nervous system, leading to pneumonia or meningitis. It is more common in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or organ transplant recipients.
