Carotid artery dissection is a condition in which a tear occurs in the inner lining of the carotid artery, one of the main arteries supplying blood to the brain. This tear allows blood to enter and accumulate between the layers of the artery wall, potentially leading to reduced blood flow to the brain or formation of blood clots that can cause stroke.
