Awake Craniotomy, Intraoperative Brain Mapping

Definition

Awake craniotomy with intraoperative brain mapping is a surgical procedure in which the patient remains awake and alert during the removal of a brain tumor or treatment of epilepsy. This technique allows the surgeon to map the functional areas of the brain, minimizing the risk of damage to critical regions responsible for speech, movement, and other functions.
