Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia

Definition

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. It is characterized by the rapid accumulation of abnormal promyelocytes, a type of immature white blood cell, which leads to an increased risk of bleeding, bruising, infections, and other complications.
