Definition

Acute interstitial pneumonia (AIP) is a rare and severe lung condition characterized by rapid onset of inflammation and scarring in the lung tissue, leading to impaired gas exchange and respiratory failure. It is often idiopathic, meaning the cause is unknown, and can progress rapidly, requiring immediate medical attention.
