Biography

Sandra Ann Springer, MD, is an infectious diseases specialist who cares for people living with HIV and other conditions closely linked with substance use. She focuses on integrating medical treatments for opioid use disorder with HIV prevention and treatment, especially for individuals with carceral experience who may not otherwise receive consistent care.

As a professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Springer directs a multidisciplinary research program exploring new ways to bring addiction care and infectious diseases services directly to communities. In 2022, she received the National Institute on Drug Abuse Avant Garde Award for developing a mobile pharmacy and clinic model to improve access to treatment for substance use and HIV.

Dr. Springer completed her medical training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, followed by an internal medicine residency and an infectious diseases fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
