Research is one of our cornerstones and we are among the top programs in the country receiving support from the National Institutes of Health. We are engaged in a wide range of research to identify the origin and mechanisms of disease, as well as patient-oriented clinical research to develop new treatments.
Our basic research activities include:
Understanding the basis of liver disease including: regulation of bile secretion by the liver and liver cell biology; liver growth, cancer and stem cells; liver immunology
Understanding the basis for portal hypertension, variceal bleeding and other complications of cirrhosis
Our clinical research activities include:
Complications and treatment of cirrhosis, viral hepatitis and liver cancer
