Understanding Chronic Pain and Alcohol Use Disorder
- Study HIC#:2000040374
- Last Updated:02/16/2026
The purpose of this study is to understand how pain and alcohol affect the brain. The study lasts about 5–6 weeks and includes seven visits: two in-person and the rest remote. Each visit will take about 30 minutes to 2 hours.
During the study, you will:
• Complete interviews
• Fill out questionnaires
• Do simple computer tasks
• If eligible, have a brain scan (MRI)
This is an observational study only. That means there is no treatment or medication involved. We are looking for community volunteers who drink alcohol (socially or heavily), and who may or may not live with chronic pain.
To find out if you qualify, please fill out this survey (about 20–30 minutes). We recommend completing it in one sitting: https://redcap.link/paintstudy
