Von Willebrand Disease

Definition

Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is a genetic bleeding disorder characterized by the deficiency or dysfunction of von Willebrand factor (VWF), a blood-clotting protein. This results in prolonged bleeding and difficulty in forming blood clots, leading to easy bruising, frequent nosebleeds, and excessive bleeding during or after injury, surgery, or childbirth.
