Umbilical Hernia

Definition

An umbilical hernia is a condition in which a portion of the intestine or fatty tissue protrudes through an opening or weak spot in the abdominal wall near the navel. It is commonly seen in infants and young children but can also occur in adults. Umbilical hernias are usually painless and may resolve on their own, but in some cases, they may require surgical intervention.
