Toxoplasmosis

Definition

Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. It can be transmitted through ingestion of contaminated food or water, contact with infected cat feces, or from an infected mother to her fetus during pregnancy. In healthy individuals, the infection is usually asymptomatic or causes mild flu-like symptoms, but it can lead to severe complications in immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women.
