Septal Myectomy

Definition

Septal myectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove a portion of the thickened interventricular septum, which is the muscular wall separating the left and right ventricles of the heart. This procedure is typically done to treat hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively.
