Sanfilippo syndrome, also known as mucopolysaccharidosis type III, is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the deficiency of specific enzymes required to break down complex sugar molecules called glycosaminoglycans. This deficiency leads to the accumulation of these molecules in various tissues and organs, causing progressive damage and dysfunction.
