Prenatal hydronephrosis is a condition in which one or both kidneys become swollen due to a buildup of urine during fetal development. This occurs when the flow of urine is obstructed or slowed, leading to dilation of the renal pelvis and calyces. It is often detected during routine prenatal ultrasounds.
