Pleurodesis

Definition

Pleurodesis is a medical procedure that involves the adhesion of the two layers of the pleura, the thin membranes surrounding the lungs. This is done to prevent the recurrence of pleural effusions or pneumothorax, which are conditions where fluid or air accumulates in the pleural space. The procedure typically involves the introduction of a chemical agent or mechanical abrasion to create inflammation and promote adhesion.
