Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound

Definition

Nuchal translucency ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging procedure performed during the first trimester of pregnancy, typically between 11 and 14 weeks gestation. It measures the thickness of the fluid-filled space at the back of the developing baby's neck, known as nuchal translucency. This measurement helps assess the risk of chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, and certain congenital heart defects in the fetus.
