Neurosyphilis

Definition

Neurosyphilis is an infection caused by the bacteria (Treponema pallidum) that causes syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection. It occurs when the infection spreads to the central nervous system, affecting the brain, spinal cord, or meninges (the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord). Neurosyphilis can manifest in various forms and may lead to severe neurological disorders if left untreated.
