Meconium Aspiration Syndrome

Definition

Meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) is a respiratory condition that occurs in newborns when they inhale a mixture of meconium and amniotic fluid during delivery. Meconium is the first stool passed by a newborn, and its presence in the amniotic fluid can cause airway obstruction, inflammation, and infection in the lungs.
