Leukoplakia

Definition

Leukoplakia is a condition characterized by the appearance of white or gray patches on the mucous membranes, primarily in the mouth and on the tongue. These patches are typically thick, raised, and cannot be easily scraped off. Leukoplakia can result from various causes, including tobacco use, alcohol consumption, irritation from dental appliances or rough teeth, and long-term inflammation.
