Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a state in which an individual is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the type of bacteria that causes tuberculosis, but does not exhibit any symptoms or signs of active disease. The bacteria remain dormant in the body and can potentially reactivate later, leading to active tuberculosis.
