Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome

Definition

Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by muscle weakness, particularly in the limbs. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks nerve cells, disrupting communication between nerves and muscles. LEMS is often associated with an underlying malignancy, most commonly small cell lung cancer.
